Breast reduction is a surgical procedure aimed at decreasing the size and volume of the breasts, as many women simply can no longer tolerate the back pain caused by excessively heavy breasts. Additionally, large breasts often cause discomfort and embarrassment in public, as well as difficulties in finding suitable clothing. This issue limits clothing options, mobility during physical activities, and the desire to go out in public.
Pre-operative Instructions
- Do not smoke for at least one week before your surgery.
- Avoid consuming alcohol during the week leading up to your procedure.
- Discontinue the use of aspirin or anti-inflammatory medications at least 15 days prior to your operation.
- Stop taking oral contraceptives 20 days before your surgery.
Course of the Procedure
During the procedure, glandular, fatty, and skin tissues are removed; the breasts are then reshaped, and the areolar complex is optionally repositioned using very fine sutures.
Duration of the Procedure
Breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia and lasts between 2 and 4 hours. A 48-hour hospital stay is required.
Return to Work
You should plan for a work leave of 7 to 10 days; however, this may vary depending on the nature of your job, as lifting heavy objects or engaging in sports is prohibited for 6 weeks following the surgery.
A postoperative bra must also be worn day and night for 3 weeks.
Result
The breasts are lifted to an appropriate position and freed from excess skin, significantly enhancing their appearance. The final result can be assessed between 6 and 10 months after the surgery. You will notice a difference in volume immediately after the procedure. If the surgery is related to back pain, relief should also be felt right away. Once the postoperative swelling subsides, you will be able to fully appreciate the lifting and reshaping of your breasts.
