Blepharoplasty helps lift drooping eyelids, address dark circles, and remove under-eye bags. Factors such as aging, alcohol, smoking, and genetics can cause eyelid sagging, which may make the eyes appear tired, dull, or sad. For some, these concerns can lead to self-consciousness and may accentuate facial aging, making one appear older.
Pre-operative Instructions
Discontinue contraceptive pills or hormonal implants at least one month before the procedure.
Avoid any medication containing aspirin for ten days prior to surgery.
Cessation of smoking is strongly recommended.
Course of the Procedure
Before the procedure, an initial consultation is conducted with your surgeon, providing an opportunity to discuss your needs and expectations.
The surgeon makes skin incisions on the upper and lower eyelids. The resulting scars are hidden between the mobile and fixed parts of the eyelid and along the lash line.
After making these incisions, the surgeon removes fat herniations and excess skin from the eyelids.
Finally, the incisions are closed with very fine, non-absorbable sutures.
Duration of the Procedure
The procedure lasts on average just over one hour, and a 24-hour hospital stay is generally required.
Return to Work
Patients with sedentary jobs can typically return to work after about one week of rest. Normal daily activities can usually be resumed after 3 to 4 days.
Sports activities are generally allowed from the third week onward (light jogging, stretching, and lower-body strengthening exercises).
Result
The initial results are visible immediately after the procedure. The eyes appear more refreshed, and the patient may look visibly younger by around ten years.
Optimal results are typically achieved three to six months post-surgery, allowing the skin tissues to regain their elasticity and for swelling and bruising to resolve. The final outcome is observed after one year, once the scars have fully faded and are no longer visible.
The benefits of blepharoplasty are permanent for under-eye bags, as they do not reappear. The improvement in skin laxity lasts approximately ten years, after which the natural effects of aging may become noticeable again.
