Liposuction effectively targets localized fat deposits in various areas of the body. It helps restore a harmonious silhouette and can also be used to treat specific areas of the face, such as the double chin.

  • Do not smoke for 6 weeks before your surgery.

  • Avoid alcohol consumption for 1 week prior to your procedure.

  • Discontinue aspirin or anti-inflammatory medications at least 15 days before your operation.

  • Stop taking oral contraceptives 20 days prior to your procedure.

  • Before performing liposuction, the plastic surgeon marks the areas to be treated with a surgical marker.
  • A solution is then infiltrated to help liquefy the fat and facilitate its removal.
  • Small incisions are made to insert a cannula with a rounded, blunt, and perforated tip. The surgeon performs back-and-forth movements to suction out the excess fat using the cannula.
  • Once the fat is removed, the surgeon closes the incisions with absorbable sutures and covers them with a dressing.

Liposuction is performed under general anesthesia when multiple large areas are being treated, whereas local anesthesia is preferred for smaller treatment areas (such as the chin, knees, ankles, etc.). The procedure duration can therefore vary between 40 minutes and 3 hours.

It is recommended to take at least one week off work following liposuction.

During the recovery period, the treated area should be kept clean and dry. Small incisions are closed with fine sutures. A compression garment should be worn for several weeks to help reduce swelling, refine the silhouette, and prevent fluid accumulation in the treated areas.

Results can typically be seen after approximately six weeks, although most patients notice a slimming effect in the treated area much sooner.
